Plus I trusted someone to scan my invaluable slides and negs. Instead, she is holding them “hostage,” per several attorneys. I need to sue her to retrieve MY property. So you all can enjoy them!

He attempted to deliver Rent Raise, with NO paperwork other than Proof of Service. That’s NOT a LEGAL service! He would NOT leave my home! He had NO legal basis for remaining. NOT the first time he entered my apartment, harassed and threatened me (especially when moving and then taking away my parking spot) and refused to leave. He UPSETS ME (other present and past tenants tell similar stories), then BLAMES US FOR BEING UPSET. Tells us “we are the only ones” to get upset. FALSE.

The use of objectionable language is certainly discouraged & you should know better. If not outright prohibited by the rules & regulations currently in use at this property; particularly the F-bomb, specifically when it’s personally directed at me, as in “F*** You!

[WHAT is he talking about? I have a VIDEO of him repeatedly yelling FUCK YOU to many tenants. I can say anything I want INSIDE my home! Especially to someone HARASSING me and ILLEGALLY delivering a Rent Increase.]

You’ve got a lot of nerve directly cursing me in that crude manner; but I’m not surprised since you clearly have challenging issues. I’m inclined to file a personal complaint with the city attorney, or better the deputy city manager (that dept runs the city, as I’m sure you know, Ms. legal eagle) both of whom we know personally.

Frankly, I don’t understand how anyone can live with you because you’re so erratic & volatile. [GASLIGHTING] As You’ll recall, I allowed your roommate to occupy your unit without getting background information on her that’s clearly required under your lease. So she’s a non-approved (by the property owner) roommate.* 

And, if you’re in fact a paralegal, why aren’t you working in a law-related environment**; oh, that’s probably a bad question. And not incidentally, I’ve forgotten more about real estate & business law than you’ll ever know.***

I don’t intend to cc my office with this email; but feel free to do so if you want to embarrass yourself further; I don’t care because it’s no skin off my teeth! And certainly won’t result in any blowback. Before proceeding, ask yourself who’ll they believe?

My partial response: First, Ross Gentry never believed I DID earn my ABA Paralegal Certificate from UCLA. I DO NOT LIE. I earned an A. Then when I dug the cert up, scanned and emailed to Ross and Donna Gentry, as well as owner, The RobertsCo, he resorted to name calling.

Legal Eagle” is another insult. Except I DO KNOW more about certain aspects of law than he. ANYONE can Google and refute him!

Plus I am in touch with the City Attorney’s office. They validate what I’ve informed Ross Gentry. Despite his threats.

*Paperwork WAS filed. HE was complicit. He has NO legal standing in this matter.

** How I CHOOSE to use my Paralegal Certificate is MY choice. HOW DARE he intrude into MY life? THAT IS BEYOND the scope of his legal job responsibilities. He’s always asking ME why I don’t work in a legal office, due to my now lapsed ABA Paralegal Certificate. Repeatedly told him a person can study law for their own usage.

BY the way, from ground up, I’ve constructed over 2,000 units & bought more than 7,500 units, so I probably know a bit more than you about bldg systems. And [t]hat’s substantially more experience in the multifamily business than the company I work for. I suggest you deal with what you know & I’ll deal with what I know. Ross.”

Is that supposed to be intimidatingTypical behavior to shut us up. Always talking about his experience and he and Donna Gentry’s influence in City politics and personnel close relationships.

Smoke Detector Code Violation 8.44.100. June – October 2015

Read the tone, words and REFUSAL to fix the defective smoke detector might give you chills. The Gentrys ENDANGERED residents by refusing to repair several smoke detectors. Repeatedly THREATENED ME. THEY VIOLATED CITY CODE!

Ross and Donna Gentry VIOLATED Santa Monica Municipal Code: 8.44.100 and REFUSED to deal with it. THREATENED and GASLIGHTED ME. As usual.

Ross and Donna Gentry REPEATEDLY told me NOT to cite code and NOT to talk to neighbors. Other tenants can verify they said or wrote the same to them. 

“And you’re not an attorney, so continually referring to the law and legal rights in your missives is inappropriate.”

It’s inappropriate to report maintenance issues and refer to the law? Really? Inappropriate to censor and silence my First Amendment Rights. BOTH the Gentrys are VIOLATING BOTH SMOKE DETECTOR CODE AND the right of ANYONE to Cite Code and Legal Rights! 

Ross Gentry THREATENED ME with violating MY lease!  Plus typical intimidating insults and gaslighting. Wrote I have a “remarkable talent” to be able to “diagnose it.” Their door was open. When the Assistant Fire Marshal, Brad Lomas came out per my phone call, he too had that “remarkable talent” and AGREED WITH MY DIAGNOSIS. As did a neighbor beneath and near that unit! SHE reported it way before I did!

Ross told me to “stop the nonsense” when I requested he deal with the constant chirping of a defective smoke detector.

“However, you’re welcome to file a complaint with the city about this matter and by the time it’s processed (weeks), I’ll have already taken action on this minor issue.” Ross Gentry, RHB Management Company.

MINOR? THE GENTRYS VIOLATEDSanta Monica Municipal Code: 8.44.100 and ENDANGERED US. 

ROSS GENTRY NEVER DEALT WITH this matter. Did not lift ONE finger. 

I have HUNDREDS of emails like this over the past 6 or so years since he started using email. BUT started May 2010, when Ross and Donna Gentry literally took over the apt building. Plus text messages and emails from others over matters.

New batteries shall be installed in smoke detectors annually or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. When it is determined that any installed smoke detector was manufactured more than ten years prior to the effective date of this Chapter, it shall be replaced.

The “chirp” will only be caused by issues surrounding the battery or miss-wiring.
Why is My Smoke Alarm Beeping?

“Smoke alarms are essential to ensure that any fire in your home is detected quickly enough for it to be put out without causing extensive damage to life or property. However, a smoke alarm that keeps beeping when there is no fire can be a major irritant that alarms small children and pets and causes you to lose sleep. If any of the smoke alarms in your home is beeping or chirping at regular intervals you need to take steps to stop this.

It’s a tenant’s responsibility to notify us about issues in their unit. It’s really none if your business what occurs in another unit unless you’re aware of a dire energency.

You aren’t the property’s designated ombudsman.

Dear Ross, Snooping? I walk by ALL the units. I stand outside #17 or my unit, 18, 19, 20 and watch the sun set. I NEVER ever stand, stare or shudder, photograph outside anyone’s unit. 

I stare at plants, trees, sunsets. IF they see me, I’m looking at sunsets and clouds, as I have LONG before they ever moved into this building. I haven’t the slightest interest in what goes in inside ANY unit. I am only concerned with inanimate objects. Esp when they are designed to protect, not annoy us.

Smoke detectors are loud, high pitched and insistent. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out the sound. That is why I always say I THINK it’s this unit or that.

The noise is extremely upsetting and disturbing to me. I have the right to mention it. Especially when it might violate codes re smoke detectors. 

I have the LEGAL right and duty to report a possible problem with a faulty smoke detector.

Ross Gentry NEVER TOOK ACTION!!! I contacted Fire Dept. The man who responded IMMEDIATELY agreed: HE heard the chirping while standing outside. Took months, but we finally got new smoke detectors. Which randomly went off at all hours.

ROSS GENTRY NEVER DEALT WITH this matter. Did not lift ONE finger. 

Smoke Detector Chirping: Neighbor Reported Oct 2015

If Ross doesn’t hear it, it doesn’t exist. Tonight (Oct 11, 2015) I saw Alison MacKenzie’s #6 door open. First I stealthily slipped downstairs, keeping my head down. Away from #15 (although for 17 years NO ONE ever reported I snooped).

I softly said, through the metal screen door, “Happy Birthday Ali!” I waited a moment. I didn’t want to appear as if I were harassing her (per Ross Gentry’s unfounded assertion). I started to walk away. I heard her voice, turned around and walked back towards her.

We spoke at great length about a lot of things. As we have since 1997, when I moved in.*

I said “Did you hear that chirping sound?” She said “Yes.” I said “For how long?” She said “Just started a while ago.” I said, “September 29. Did you tell Ross?

Ali began: “Yes I told Ross and Donna.”

Donna saw me outside. She said “You don’t have your cane anymore? (Ali hurt her leg at work). Donna asked “Is everything all right?

Ali answered: “That fire detector is making that squeaking sound again.” Then Ross poked his head out. Ross said “Do you have a problem?

[As if she wouldn’t be talking to Donna if not for a problem. Remember, Donna initiated the conversation, according to Ali.]

Ali repeated that the smoke detector appeared to be defective again. It either needed a new battery or placed or something.

Ross said “Don’t hear it. And there is nothing wrong.

What about Santa Monica Municipal Code 8.44.100? I wrote about this: Smoke Detector Code Violations 8.44.100. June – October 2015.

This is the SAME conversation that we BOTH had last spring/early summer. I reported it back in June. This is why I came on so strong this time in my email.

Is it really necessary for Ali and I to report this? Ross always tells many of us we are NOT to “instruct” him in his job. Most wouldn’t communicate with him AT ALL IF took care of these matters BEFORE we reported it.

I hate talking or emailing him. It’s like walking on land mines. Never know what the response will be. To a chirping, squeaking probable defective smoke detector. My WHOLE life turned upside down over that? No, I don’t look for this kind of engagement with him. I do my BEST to stay away.

Ross always tells us he and Donna know exactly what’s going on in this building. As, Ali #6, Maria #9, I others say: If Ross doesn’t hear it, it doesn’t exist.

Never mind the laws and the codes. Never mind our right to quiet and privacy.

I have worked too hard in my life to be held back by this man who possibly violates city and state laws. Plus our First Amendment rights, Santa Monica’s anti-harassment laws and our right to quiet and privacy. I wouldn’t be walking around, trying to find the source of noise, IF he walked around instead.

*FYI: Donna Gentry usually gives me such grief for talking to Ali. I keep telling Donna: I’ve talked to Ali since 1997. I was slowly moving in. I met her right away. We’ve been friends ever since.

The Gentrys started May, 2010. Ali and are friends. Donna didn’t bother us then, but so often has. I like to talk to my neighbors. Many like talking to me. They cannot stand that!

The Gentrys accuse us of talking against them. ONLY when the Gentrys won’t repair things, yell at us for whatever, send nasty emails, texts and worse … This document reveals a tiny portion of what is going down. Down hard on most of us, past and present residents.

Chirping Listen: Smoke Detector or Outrageously Annoying? Oct 2015

Click to Listen: Chirping, squeaking. Louder when door open. Usually open for many hours in this heat. I compiled three (3) short recordings with approx. 30 second intervals of the high pitched, chirping sound. I had to be careful I would not be reported as “snooping” or “harassing.” Plus my 10 year old little digital recorder is for speaking. Flattened the pitch.

Numbers indicate approximates time when chirping:

October 17, 12:35 pm:
2, 30, 58, girl walking up the stairs, 1:20 girls greeting, 1:27, 1:55, 2:24.

October 8, 8 pm: (lots of background noise, but focus on the HIGH pitched chirps.)
2:31, 3, 3:28, ends 3:31.

October 8, 3 pm:
3:36 (faint), 4:05, 4:33, ends 4:39.

I’m a visual artist, not used to looking clocks and writing times. I put HOURS into this! Figuring good times to sneak out, listening, counting, putting the audio together.

First recording rather clear. My back was towards #15 and #17. I I held my little recorder towards my right, facing #15. I am NOT saying noise originates from there.

We both heard #15 last spring [2015], Alison MacKenzie #6: Smoke Detector Chirping: Neighbor Reported Oct 2015.  We have no idea if any others reported it then and/or now, plus people left … and …

I am the one being threatened with violating MY lease? Welcome to the Twilight Zone for the last FIVE plus (5+) years.

I focused on the garden downstairs which Ali created. I noticed two purple Iris buds yesterday. When I walked that pathway down the stairs to farmer’s market and library today, the irises were in full bloom. Not very tall. Very easy to miss. Gotta LOOK.

Someone came up the stairs. I assume a girl due to light foot steps and subsequent  voices. #15 I guess. She didn’t walk long enough to go into another unit. From their reactions, maybe they saw her outside.

Manager Mocks Ability to Photograph Clouds and Sunset: “Jenny, You’d have some difficulty watching the sun set while standing in front of units #18, #19 & #20 unless you can see through the building.”

I wrote I watch clouds AND watch the sun set between 18, 19, 20 AND 15, 16, 17. I was keeping it brief. So literal, so picky, so unreasonable.

I see through buildings and can photograph this amazing ability!

I photographed these clouds BETWEEN units 15 and 17. Mostly, I just watch and study clouds. We don’t get many clouds here, unlike England. I always marvel at how William Blake painted clouds. Turner. French engraver Gustave Dore.

GET OFF MY CLOUD and let me look at them!! Let THIS world famous ARTIST look at Clouds!! Flowers, Spiderwebs. Life. That is who I am and what I do.

I specifically used OUTRAGEOUS because Ross Gentry used that word in an email about noise WE didn’t hear: “You might not have been in your room at the time this outrageous noise occurred yesterday.” We both were home, quietly working in separate rooms in our unit.

He REFUSED to accept the FACT we didn’t hear this “outrageous noise.” He reported it as if one or both of us heard it. We did not hear anything!

BUT these chirps, since September 29, 2015ARE violating OUR rights to quiet.

IF a defective smoke detector, VIOLATING SMMC 8.44.100.

Plus ENDANGERING OUR safety! ILLEGAL. 

Perhaps the words he uses most often, certainly in threatening emails and txt msgs posted:  “Legal and Illegal”  in his emails, text msgs, and his failed attempt at an Lease Illegally Unilaterally Imposed: City Said NO!), are according to Ross Gentry:

Residents keep saying this: IF Ross hears it, it exists. If Ross doesn’t hear it, it does not exist. Neither should I. Nor you.

#15 can see OUTSIDE better than a person can inside. Unless you are staring. The LAST thing I want to do is snoop inside anyone’s home! TRY walking from MY unit past their’s on your way down.

I AM TELLING THE TRUTH. I love taking photos outdoors. Which I have been prevented from doing. My fresh air, exercise and art outlawed because of manager’s harassment. I wrote I watch clouds AND watch the sun set between 18, 19, 20 AND 15, 16, 17. I was keeping it brief. So literal, so picky, so unreasonable.

Read these four (4) pages of emails … look HOW I am turned into the villain. Except I have photos, other neighbor’s emails refuting manager’s baseless claims and the laws to prove harassment and threats.

All because I wanted to look at clouds and determine the source of probable defective smoke detector, in violation of SMMC 8.44.100.

(And because I always speak truth to power, quote code, while he ignores legitimate maintenance requests and turns me into the harasser. Talk to the tenants. See for yourself.)

I’m required to respond to resident’s complaints no matter if they’re seemingly innocuous they may seem to you and others. And I’ll continue to vigorously enforce all the provisions of all leases at this property.

It might be instructive for you to read paragraph 12. “Compliance with Laws” of your lease (page attached) that specifically states, “Renter shall not commit any nuisance in or about the Premises, or in any way annoy any other renter…”

And please don’t think my actions constitute “harassment” as that word is so frequently tossed about by some residents at this property and throughout the city. My efforts only seek full compliance with the terms and conditions of all leases at the property. There’s no intent nor have I been instructed to utilize actions that can be construed as an effort to force a tenant to vacate their premises.

[Really, so why have so many left? I have their email addresses and incidents. And believe me, I’ve wanted to move ONLY because of the onsite managers, both of them.]

So please stop this nonsense or it’ll be necessary to formally invoke and report this “causing a nuisance” provision contained in your lease; although this email constitutes an initial warning of this specific violation of your lease.

Presumably you called the city about “chirping” smoke detectors causing a code-compliance office to visit me   today; after all, who else would do that?

First, do you think other residents & I couldn’t hear the chirping too?

Second, those devices are cameras, not smoke detectors; and I’m not allowed to touch them due to their sensitivity.

I would have informed you of that fact & my planned actions if you had notified me which is the proper procedure.

However, you had to go around me, which is your typical strategy.

I spoke with a maintenance man Monday, August 22, 2016. I met him while he was working other times. I heard him ask another colleague if they had any smoke detectors. Did Ross inform them?

Hi Gentlemen,

I am sorry I have not written sooner.

Many of us have NO smoke detectors or defective models.

RHB/Roberts Co replaced the detectors in October. With cheap, defective detectors. They go off erratically. I had to remove both of mine. I put next to my desk to remind me to write you.

Twice one went off. No smoking, no incense, nothing. Was merely typing on computer.

Not sure if that’s the same one which went off at midnight, two nights in a row. While I was IN the shower.

Another went off when I was cooking potatoes in oven. NO SMOKE. Clean oven. I was washing the dishes, not even cooking. Went off in living room.

Ross Gentry admitted the owner bought the wrong ones.

We still hear them going off at odd hours. I even recorded at least one of them.

And Donna Gentry, so connected with the City, is letting this pass. She’s co-manager.

From today’s email on an unrelated topic, from Ross Gentry:

“Donna’s a consultant to and/or a very high-profile board member of three city organizations; the Pico Improvement Organization, the Police Activities League (PAL) & the Human Resources Council, where’s She’s also Vice-Chairman.

And she personally knows the mayor, police & fire chiefs, the city manager & the city attorney & all of the major department heads & most other key personnel in the city.

Therefore, it’s unnecessary for you to tell her or me anything about how the city functions & its agenda.”

This is in response to my taking around a Preferential Parking petition, PER the City’s request. He YELLED at me to stop and that it was “none of my business” to do what the City asked us.

His wife, Donna Gentry, was at the meeting. She never told him about the petition. So no, he didn’t KNOW “how the city functions & its agenda.”

“My wife is connected to the city” is his mantra. Yet they BOTH won’t do a think about the defective smoke detectors? Go figure.

I just want functioning smoke detectors.

Too much to ask?

April 2018: I removed my hall smoke detector. It goes off if I turn on my oven. My oven is CLEAN.

This is a CURRENT problem. I won’t discuss with Ross Gentry nor RobertsCo. Not going through that again.

I told Ross NOT to talk to me unless specific to the lease. He called me “a loon.” That was maybe February.

No one even knows I’m out there. I’m that quiet. And unobtrusive. I don’t even look up from my photos. I leave them to whatever they are doing.

He said:

“I COMMAND you to stop taking photos.” REPEATEDLY yelled at me to stop. Commanding me? In what world?

Remember I said I didn’t want him talking to me? Not even saying hello. THIS IS WHY. They don’t say hello. They command. Ross and Donna Gentry.

I am not going to ruin my life by his aggravating my PTSD and your inaction.

I am serious. I will take this to the international press. I would LOVE People, Rolling Stone, Spin and MOJO (in England) to run something online and in print. About photographer’s rights. Let’s go with Juxtapoz and other international ART mags.

Cos I am on great terms with those and other publications. They LOVE my photos. They LOVE me. Plus there’s local press. LA Weekly. Oh yeah, I could make this blow up BIG. Cos I’m that big. MY photos are famous.

I know tons of published news investigators. Including a Pulitzer Prize nominated writer. He told me he’d help.

I don’t know how they and the public will react to the FACT I wrote my complaint Oct 2015. STILL no resolution.

Take this any way you want. I am raising money. I am taking legal action.

I RATHER we work together. But if you continue to drag your heels while my life and art go down the drain, it’s on.

Her bedroom overlooks Ross’ apt. She has heard a LOT of yelling from him through the years. She’s been here 5 years whereas the Gentrys came May 12, 2010 (that’s the date of letter from Roberts Co informing us). But they arrived a bit earlier in May, 2010, I believe.

He was yelling. Specifically said “I COMMAND you to stop.” I responded and said I would not stop. He also threatened to call your office. I told him to DO IT.

ON WHAT grounds is he going to call you? As you and I know, calling won’t do a thing. See, he doesn’t even follow legal procedures. Everything in writing.

That is why I don’t want even a hello from him.

I was shaking and couldn’t even hold my camera. RUINED it for me.

What gives Ross and Donna Gentry the RIGHT to BREAK LAWS? HARASS. THREATEN. COMMAND ME.

Plus the City Attorney cleared him, despite my OPEN Complaint!

Previous night was Full Moon, June 19, my late Mother‘s birthday.

PLUS THE TREE later WAS SEVERELY CUT BACK. Wonder why?

Will take YEARS to ever bloom like it did then.

Or is that out of your interest? Cos taking nearly a year to ‘work out an agreement with the owner,’ while the PREVIOUS complaint and mine leave ALL of us vulnerable to their abuse. 
 
I’m collecting more and more evidence from a wide variety of tenants.
 
WHAT will it take to get ANYTHING in writing defining the limits of abuse, I mean, restrictions, which have NO basis in the laws nor our leases, NEEDS to be done.
 
I don’t understand how you sleep at night. I really don’t. WHY can’t or won’t you inform ALL of us what are our rights?
 
Cos I know what they are. But YOU are the legal enforcers. Or are you?
 
I just want to live in and outside MY apt courtyard without nasty commands, harassment and gossip from BOTH Ross and Donna Gentry. Donna really laid it on me this weekend. I didn’t even do anything but talk to my new neighbors. 
 
WHAT is it going to take?

Oh, Gary Rhoades doesn’t like MY words and tone? HOW many times did I call and write for a ruling on this? DID they EVER tell Ross and Donna Gentry I AM ALLOWED to take photos? I have not taken photos since this incident, TWO years ago.
 
Doesn’t like MY tone. I DO NOT LIKE HIS LACK OF ACTION. He is PAID to PROTECT residents. Go ahead, be mad at me, Gary. I DO NOT CARE. He and his office have broken promises for SIX YEARS. I have the emails to prove it. Not just to me, but other residents. The City Attorney’s Office is either negligent or complicit! There, I said it. DEAL. 

Imagine getting THIS text message. I was shocked, shaking, crying. I had NOT even seen nor talked to workmen in ages. What is he talking about? NO RESPONSE.

He often does that: attacks and retreats, leaving me depressed, scared, unable to cope for MONTHS at a time. Ross was constantly yelling or writing about my “bothering workmen.”

Sent Oct 31, 2016. ONE year after I filed my Complaint to Santa Monica City Attorney. Over one year since I first started to report defective smoke detectors. I photographed it because I could not download it from my phone, March 11, 2017.

I made a point of NOT even making eye contact with workmen. Or neighbors (Donna and Ross scolded me repeatedly about talking to neighbors. I was very quiet around them, anything to stay off their radar. Impossible.)

I AM BUSY. They speak Spanish. They need to get their work done. I need to get my work done. I HAVE NO TIME nor INTEREST to bother ANYONE!

Doesn’t this go way beyond being an “Apartment Manager?”

WHAT do you call people who do this? HOW can this be legal? 

It is RED because I BLOCKED his number. I was shaking for months. No one should ever block their onsite apartment manager’s phone number. I had to do so for my sanity.

NO ANSWER. Just make FALSE statements. Leaving me to shake.

 

Venetian Blinds and THREAT of Lawsuit Summary:

Ross Gentry CORNERED me in the laundry room. I can’t even do my laundry nor empty the trash nor walk out without the threat of his verbally attacking me. Made irrational demands. Would not back down, no matter what I said. I was so upset I wrote EVERYTHING down when I returned home. Yet claims he “didn’t press me” in later email. I was shaking, nearly crying, confused why he kept insisting I could NOT lift my blinds. IF that’s not pressing, what is?

Claimed lifting blinds affected UNIFORMITY of window treatments. Horizontal and Vertical Blinds, Curtains, Lace, Bamboo and broken glass. I SPECIFICALLY paid FOR PRO installation, using the OWNER’s recommended vendor. FAR more money than if I installed myself. WHY? SO I would NOT be harassed!! Managers are abusive, bullying, threatening, irrational, and worse.

He INSISTED I do not raise my blinds!!  I PAID for the blinds, purchased from a company the OWNER referral, per my request.

I asked where in the Lease are limitations re blinds. Not in the lease!

THEN I BEGGED HIM (and wrote to the owner, RobertsCo), to leave me alone because he triggers my PSTD. His response was tin intrude into my PERSONAL life and ask about my PTSD!

STATEMENT and Summary RE BLINDS:

Ross claims he was “not pressing me?” READ how many times HE INSISTED I could not life my blinds.

We had this discussion weeks ago. I thought it was settled. He told me not to pull them all the way up. So I don’t pull them all the way up.

I had no idea he meant not to pull up at all! That is NOT what we discussed the first time. I thought he was trying to help. He said many people said it fell down when they closed all the way.

I was stunned when he said he didn’t want me to LIFT MY BLINDS. I could  open the slats and get sun in.

I told him in the past that I HATE the blind slats. I want to see the WHOLE window. I’m an artist. He knows that! Or should! People who’ve lived here awhile KNOW I take photos of trees, flowers, clouds and sunsets. And rain.

So we went round and round on that! I do NOT want to see the horizontal lines.

1 — So then he said ‘many people’ had it fall on them. Not just fall this time, but on them. I said, “No, I have a table, it’s 2.5 feet wide, I stand on a stool, another foot, I’m at least a yard away. If it falls, it will fall on my table.”

He makes like he’s watching out for us. It’s ALL about OUR safety. Til you keep at it and the truth slowly comes out.

[I WONDER how many, if any, had vertical blinds fall on them. I’ve never seen any which fell. It takes weeks, if not months, to fix things here. I would have seen missing blinds.]

 

 

 

 

2 — So then he said, “People can see in.”

Fine, I said. I either sitting at my computer or taking photos.

Mostly sitting. IF I don’t mind people seeing in, WHY DOES HE MIND? NONE of HIS business!

I’m creating art. Studying. Working. I’ve nothing to hide. What’s he so afraid of? He, and esp Donna Gentry, are SO paranoid! The things they tell me. A neighbor has told me what Donna says. For years, we know their paranoia.

3 — At some point I said: “I PAID for those blinds! They are MINE! You can’t tell me what to do with them!”

4 – “Don’t pull up your blinds.”

5 – I responded: “Where is that in the lease?”

“Well, it’s not in the lease.”

THEN WHAT GIVES HIM THE RIGHT to tell me what to do?

NOW we get to the truth:

6– “WE don’t want you to pull them up. It ruins the look of the building. The continuity.”

Email: “However, if possible, we strive to maintain consistency with the look of units from “outside” in the courtyard.”

 [Take a look at a handful of units I photographed April 24, 2018, below. #23 window broken for years. Drapes, lace and bamboo curtains, crooked blinds, and more. Continuity? NO, he and Donna, ‘we,’ want to IMPOSE THEIR WILL ON US. ]

“Put it in writing! It’s not in the lease and it’s not against City law. But I’ll be talking to City Attorney, Johanna and Andrea. You cannot tell me what to do when I don’t violate laws! And we getting along so well.” [I shook my head as I lowered my normal speaking voice and sighed.]

He seemed a bit quieter when I mentioned their names. He backs down when I talk about attorneys in person. Not online. But in person.

Really important: I did NOT raise my voice. I did not swear. I was calm, collected, answered as quickly as he came at me. While increasingly being shocked at what he was saying.

I merely TOLD HIM to put it in writing. I mentioned the City personnel by name because THEY advised me how to deal with him.

So when he said I was BELLIGERENT, I was floored. That’s what he does. SO many emails he gaslights me. I documented it. They are organized in a PDF, emails and document. Photos too. To prove his lies and abuse.

Belligerent? I was calm. He was too. But I spoke in a normal tone. I am too exhausted to get that upset right now over his crap. I’ve got bigger concerns in my life. Plus the City and Psychologists ALL said ignore him.

Barbie from the Blinds place said DO NOT LISTEN to him. She said property with MY blinds raise value! I know. The cheap verticals get caught and twisted and broken. I could NOT reach them with that table. I HAD to get horizontals. I charged nearly $250 for them!

She said “They don’t fall down. Not if professionally installed.” THEY installed them.

I was calm. She hadn’t told me that yet, but the others had. And more people. He’s not gonna rattle me for years. But he’s done a number. My PTSD is RAGING.

Thanks Ross. I’m losing money by NOT announcing my classes. Which WAS last night’s agenda. I am barley coping. Working, organizing my photos and files. But crying and shaking.

WHAT CONTINUITY?  I did not photograph every window. Just a few to prove there is NO CONTINUITY.

I just called Barbie from the company the Roberts Co recommended for the blinds. She said people raise and lift blinds daily. She told me to IGNORE you.

You care so much about the look? What about the stuff outside #7? The balconies, esp #4? What about the many times the trash is all over the carport?

I HAVE PHOTOS of YOU letting the bldg look trashy many times.

The leaves in the courtyard and carport that Judy always swept up. You wait til a maintenance crew cleans it up. She was out there nearly EVERY day. Especially after wind and rain.

The cigarettes and needle covers I see on the grass out front.

What about the FILTHY RED car in the carport? YOU got RobertsCo to write me a threat of eviction letter. And my car wasn’t even dirty! What about them? This is discriminatory!

You think anyone cares if someone opens her blinds? You think that diminishes the property?

I LIKE LOOKING AT TREES AND SUNLIGHT, sun setting, watching the colors change during the day. WITHOUT any blinds.

You have NO legal grounds for telling me whether or not I can open my blinds. Not even rationale grounds.

IF the City Attorney’s Office were open today, I would have spoken to Johanna Rodriguez. It’s the Friday it’s closed. Johanna is their community Liaison. She and that staff KNOWS ME.

They know ALOT about what you have told and written me through the years.

IF you don’t want me communicating with lawyers, private and public, do not give me reasons.

NEVER EVER call me BELLIGERENT (or any other gaslighting or judgmental words) when YOU repeatedly HARASS* me about something as silly as blinds.

(Not *harass in a way to cause evictions. But your talking to me about my blinds IS harassment in a psychological and legal term, aside from narrow definition by the City Attorney.)

** NOW what about MY shower/tub leak?

I will contact Rent Control if that is not repaired ASAP. It’s been since December! And I mentioned it to you and Vince months earlier. You told me WEEKS ago it would be 2 weeks. That’s come and gone.

And there’s another issue. Which I will discuss later.

I will NOT hesitate contacting the City Attorney. Again. And take other steps.

I work very hard to get along with you. I’m so busy with my work. I have no time to spend ALL day shaking because YOU have some issue with perfectly good, professionally installed blinds.

YOU get my bathroom leak fixed. Never discuss about my blinds.

Felipe: “You’ve got a roof leak.”

“I told Ross water leaking out of my unit onto the dark brown area on the bottom of left image. Ross said it’s neighbors spilling soda. I disagreed. It kept leaking. I wrote Ross a few times. ”

Felipe pointed out water stains on bottom window sill. He pointed above us to top window sill.

Ross YELLED at me in emails. I was not to “engage” the workmen.

WHAT? Felipe rang my bell. Felipe TOLD me. I didn’t ask. But I’m “a nuisance”?

The Roofers NEVER got the message. I told them when I heard them above my head.

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR.” “SILLY NONSENSE.” Ross wrote that about me in several emails. I’m the silly unacceptable one?

Ross Gentry IS PAID TO DEAL WITH MAINTENANCE. He has NO LEGAL STANDING to REPEATEDLY ATTACK MY CHARACTER or ACTIONS.


Whole Story: rain leaked into my back rooms every winter. At least ONE month each year was all about getting the roof fixed. For 13 years. I lost 13 months of my life. It was horrible!

Then Ross worked with roofers. No more leaking. I pray. Cos you never know … BUT ..

December 26, 2012, rain. I reported a strange leak outside the front of my unit. From my email:

“I wiped dry a spot TWICE so there seems to be a weird water leak. Stand outside my apt, in front of the big picture window, a few feet left of my door. Right where the wall hits the pavement, there’s water.

You can see it coming from where the wall and pavement touch, and it spread about 8 inches. I’m going to put masking tape on the wall and ground to show you where.”

[So much for his claim I don’t provide specific locations: what sidewalk you’re referring to.]

Mr Gentry wrote “looks like spilled soda pop. I’ll send notice to unit #8 ASAP.”

I questioned that because:

  • Twice in same spot?
  • Leak seemed to be coming from inside the bldg outward. No one spills that close to the wall.
  • Hmm, #8 is under me. My neighbors are #17.

A few weeks later, the plumber, Felipe, rang my bell. He was told I had a plumbing problem. I’ve known Felipe for years. Before the Gentrys. Not uncommon for him to check to see if  to fix something, even without my asking.

I told him I didn’t have a problem.

Felipe said “Your roof is leaking.”

I said, “Yes, but Mr Gentry won’t believe me.”

Felipe showed me that if you look from the ground up, you could see through my window that the window sill was water stained. Further up, we could see round beige water spots where the water was coming down from my roof into the living room, onto the sill, and out the outside pavement.

Maybe he noticed my masking tape.

Later I saw Mr. Gentry. I mentioned what Felipe told me.

Mr Gentry became FURIOUS at me. Yelling that “you are not to talk to the repair people.”

Excuse me? Felipe and I KNEW it wasn’t soda and Ross is yelling at me?

I told Mr Gentry: “Felipe came to my door, HE TOLD ME. I didn’t bring it up.”

They don’t want us talking to each other or the repair people.

IF that’s not harassment, I don’t know what is. A VERY uncomfortable environment. Yelling at me and telling me what to do. Idid nothing wrong.

HE DID NOT DIAGNOSE a SERIOUS roof leak. I DID. Felipe DID.

What right does Ross have to chastise and criticize me? And ignore my leaking roof?

It’s March …. And not repaired, to my knowledge. Maybe they worked on the roof, but not indoors.

The tape is still there.

THEN ….read through the last page. Ross yelled at me for talking to the Roofers. Who had NO idea about my leak … after all that, Ross never told them about the leak.

Re rain leak per my discussion yesterday, Sat Dec 13.

I put masking tape indicating where water came from the stucco and flowed across the pavement under the big front window. Front of apt.

It doesn’t appear to be bad inside. Look where the two window panes meet in the center. Then look to the right of that, towards the door. It’s about a foot long.

Look UP where the blinds are attached and can see brown water spots. Look DOWN where the blinds end, and you can see thin black outlines.

Comes out of the bldg on the bottom of the outside stucco. It was wet Friday after the rain stopped. Wet stream only there. Always the same spot.

I found this old email, the first time this was a problem, Dec 2012. ONLY happens when it rains.

Subject: Weird water link outside apt/Late music #8 I think

Hi Ross,

I wiped dry a spot TWICE so there seems to be a weird water leak. Stand outside my apt, in front of the big picture window, a few feet left of my door. Right where the wall hits the pavement, there’s water. You can see it coming from where the wall and pavement touch, and it spread about 8 inches.

I’m going to put masking tape on the wall and ground to show you where.

If possible, pls don’t come by before noon. I usually stay up all night working.

There’s no water on the inside, in fact, nothing on the other side of the wall. Strange, eh?

PS I think apt 8 is playing loud music til about 2 or 3 am. I don’t think it’s 19. Sometimes I read in bed til they are quiet. Another reason I’m up so late. I can’t get to sleep. Not all the time, but I sure heard it last night.

PS PLS DO NOT CALL ME. I never turn on my phone.

HOW could it be soda pop? Too close to the door, and it kept leaking. Felipe GOT it right away. I didn’t even ask him.

I recall asking him what he was talking about re the CC line. I can’t remember the answer. Probably buried in any one of the HUNDREDS of emails I’ve compiled.

His answer was so confusing. CC?

Roofers Did Not Know Leak; Ross Mad I Told Them

Several months passed after Felipe told me source of rain leak. Plus Ross angrily telling me “not to engage with the help.” I woke up to hear roofers above my head. I went outside and notified one of them of the leak. He came down and I pointed where it was.

He thanked me and repaired it. The Roofers were NOT TOLD of my leak! After all that, they had  NO idea.

Ross scolded me for speaking to him.

It was Ross’ job and responsibility to point out the leak AFTER I reported what Felipe told me.

Leaking IN MY apartment! I have EVERY right to discuss that with maintenance IF he refused to do so.

It is my right as a tenant to inform maintenance personnel of issues when they are relevant. Stifling my freedom of speech and ability to contribute to the maintenance is one form of intimidation and harassment.

Repeatedly YELLING AT ME. HE didn’t diagnose it. The roofers didn’t know. Yelling at me when I did nothing wrong. I did what ANY reasonable person would do. Whatever it takes to help stop a roof leak!

ROSS GENTRY IS VERBALLY ABUSIVE! How would YOU like to be standing in my shoes? I’m so upset writing this. I’ve spent months of my life documenting all this.

Has to be some peaceful solution. He’s driving away so many people. Or those who stay are tired of all this ABUSE. It’s why I created this secret for now site. And a HUGE document with all the info online. Plus MANY more emails I’m compiling.

And the hits keep coming. STOP VERBALLY HITTING ME!!!
